The Hunter College High School (HCHS) entrance exam determines admission to NYC's renowned Hunter College High School. The exam's format combines:

  • Reading comprehension with varied passage types and time periods
  • Mathematics covering fractions, geometry, word problems, and pattern recognition
  • Written essay demonstrating analytical and critical thinking skills

Success requires mastering both content and time management. Our teachers and textbook, Remain Clam! Test Taking & the Student Mind: Hunter Edition,  help our students excel through:

  • Strategic reading comprehension techniques
  • Mathematical problem-solving practice
  • Essay writing development
  • Full-length practice tests and

Unlike the SHSAT, which is open to all, the HCHS is by invitation only. Students must qualify through their 5th Grade ELA & Math State Test scores. Private school students must place in via a separate pre-test. The Hunter exam is administered in January and only 6-8% of the students who take it gain entry to HCHS.

25-40% of ours do.
