The 4th Grade New York State Test is used as one of the criteria for entrance to many public middle schools.
Overview
Test date(s): ELA—End of April; Math—Beginning of May
Format(s): Online, paper
ibidPREP takes pride in gently steering our younger students to excellent scores on their state exams in both ELA [English Language Arts] and Math. We improve reading, fortify math processes, and sharpen writing skills without turning students into unthinking robots. We do not “teach to the test"—we simply teach.
We have been honing our materials and syllabuses since the State Tests were changed to conform to the Common Core in 2012. All classes and one-on-one work is supplemented with our own exams and textbook: Remain Clam! Test Taking & the Student Mind: 4th Grade NY State Edition.
Our approach has been used to great effect in schools, in our classes and with our private students.
How often should my child take practice tests?
Once students have covered most parts of the exam in their prep, we recommend full-length practice tests every 2-3 weeks with targeted section practice between exams.
When should my child start preparing?
The tests are usually administered just after Spring Break. We recommend beginning prep in January of 4th grade to allow adequate time for skill development and test experience. Reach out any time from the start of 4th Grade on for your free 4th Grade State Test diagnostic.
When will score reports be released?
Sometime during Summer Break.
Stuart and the Ibid prep team are absolutely incredible! My son is a great student but a very nervous test taker and we couldn't have been luckier to have found Ibid before his 4th grade exams. Stuart took the time with me to find exactly the right tutor for my son. Paul, the tutor he placed us with, was nothing short of amazing - brilliant, kind, calm, and so supportive of my son. He went into his exams fully prepared and most importantly, totally RELAXED.
